10 Gifts for Bread Bakers and Eaters

This morning, my son woke up and immediately chimed, “Mom! 12 days until Christmas!” And I was like, “How did that happen? I better shape up and buy those Christmas gifts I thought I had soooo much time left to buy!” I popped on Amazon to find a few things and promptly got sidetracked looking at bread-making supplies. As one does.

But as I was comparing different brands of bannetons, I realized that I get LOTS of questions about bread making, amateur though I am, and that it might be fun to do a little round-up of gift ideas for those bread bakers (or just bread appreciators!) in your life. Whether you have a friend who’s already traveled deep down the bread-making wormhole or you have a family member who doesn’t bake bread but whom you secretly wish did bake bread so they could share with you… this is for you. Of course, you could always pick up one or two things for yourself, because Christmas elves need love, too.

Bread Baking for Beginners by Bonnie O’Hara

1.If you know someone who’s interested in making their own bread, but doesn’t have much experience, this book’s perfect. I follow Bonnie online and am always so impressed by not only her beautiful bread, but also by her desire and ability to make it accessible for everybody.

Tartine Bread by Chad Robertson

2. This is the book that got me really excited about making sourdough/naturally leavened bread. Look, there are a ton of books you can use to teach yourself to make wonderful bread, so I can’t claim this is the best. But I do love it and I think anyone would be thrilled to get this as a gift.

Lodge Combo Cooker

3. If you want to make sourdough with crispy, crackly, burnished crust, this guy is your best friend. And it’s so reasonably priced that you could buy 2 for double batches!

Mure & Peyrot Bread Lame

4. This is the perfect stocking stuffer for people who want to go next-level with their baking and work on scoring their loaves with all kinds of fun designs.

Doyolla Proofing Baskets

5. If you’re just starting, a bowl and dish towel work just fine for proofing loaves, but these babies make it so much easier to keep your loaves round and tidy as they rise.

Assorted Baking Flours

6. Literally nobody except a bread baker would get excited about getting a gift set of flour… but I’m not gonna lie, this would make me squeal with delight.

Wusthof Bread Knife

7. Is there anything worse than making a gorgeous loaf of bread and then butchering it with a dull knife? (Yes. The answer is yes, there are very many worse things. But just humor me, ok?)

Carbivore T-shirt

8. I mean… this could be my new favorite shirt.

Reusable Cotton Bread Bag

9. How cute is this cotton bread bag for bringing a few loaves to a party or for storing leftover slices? Much cuter than the usual paper grocery bags I usually use!

Scarlet Poppies Poster

10. When I saw this print on Etsy, I had to have it. The colors, the poetry… so good and perfect for the wall in your favorite baker’s kitchen.

So that’s all I’ve got folks. Anyone have any other great ideas for the bakers in their lives? I’d love to hear them… drop me a note with your ideas in the comments!
